The co-creator and executive producer of "The Cleveland Show," who just signed a new multiyear overall deal extending his long run with 20th Century Fox TV, will take over as showrunner and executive producer on "Family Guy,” Deadline.com reports.

Rich Appel’s new deal with Twentieth will run his relationship with the studio to two decades, the story notes.

Current “Family Guy” co-showrunners Mark Hentemann and Steve Callaghan will stay with the show as executive producers, while Appel will continue in his job as executive producer and showrunner on "The Cleveland Show," the story adds.

"’Family Guy’ has a history of changing things up at the top to bring new energy to the veteran animated comedy. Several years ago, Hentemann and Callaghan took over showrunner duties from David Goodman and Chris Sheridan, who also continued with the show for years after that," the story notes.
