Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney has turned down Nickelodeon’s "Kids Pick the President" special, prompting the network to say it’s "disappointed" with the decision, reports TVNewser.com.

President Obama taped his answers to kids’ questions at the White House, but with Romney declining, the show will use archive video of Romney answering similar questions to the ones the kids asked, the story notes.

“After numerous attempts by ‘Nick News’ to get former Governor Mitt Romney to participate in the special, his camp declined saying he was unable to fit it into his schedule,” Nickelodeon said in a statement.

Host Linda Ellerbee said in a statement that answering the kids’ questions directly shows that candidates have respect for children. "We are disappointed that Mitt Romney wouldn’t take the time to answer the questions, but are thrilled that President Obama participated in the special," she said.

The "Kids Pick the President" specials have been fairly accurate at picking who will win the presidential election, with the children correctly predicting five out of the last six elections, the piece notes.
