NBC Cancels Series

NBC has seen enough of one of its new series. Deadline.com reports that the ongoing ratings struggle for the freshman sitcom “Animal Practice” — including a 1.0 average rating last night in the key 18-49 demo — convinced NBC to cancel the show.

The network will replace the comedy with “Whitney,” which returns for season two on Nov. 14. “Animal Practice” will hold down the time slot until then.

“It has been a fast fall from grace for ‘Animal Practice,’ whose pilot was previewed during NBC’s coverage of the Summer Olympics’ Closing Ceremony,” the report notes. “But the comedy starring Justin Kirk and Crystal the monkey never found traction when it launched last month. Meanwhile, NBC signaled that it may have other plans in store for returning comedies ‘Whitney’ and ‘Community’ last week when it pushed back the shows’ scheduled Friday debut.”

NBC’s only multicamera sitcoms are “Whitney” and “Guys With Kids,” which will run together in the 8 p.m. hour on Wednesdays, the story points out.

  1. This is no surprise; the show sucked.

  2. Call me petty, but I personally made a point to skip the show after that crap they pulled during the Olympics closing ceremony (where they LEFT the coverage at the end of the closing ceremony, went to the pilot of “Animal Practice” and then came BACK and skipped a bunch of stuff from London). That was a bad call. I wonder how many other people like me silently boycotted this show…?
