NBC has signed on for a new comedy from one of the producers behind “Community,” according to The Hollywood Reporter. The network has ordered a script plus penalty from Chris McKenna, the report says.

McKenna moved on from “Community” to co-executive produce “The Mindy Project.”

The new project is described as an oddball brother comedy. “The project centers on a large family, in which the mother has passed away long ago and the kids span in age from 15 to 30-plus,” the story reports. “When the family’s father passes away, the oldest of the siblings — the family’s black sheep — moves back into the family home to be the guardian for the youngest, who turns out to be the other prankster of the bunch. A series of comical one-upmanship ensues.”

McKenna has a two-year overall deal with Universal Television, the report notes. He will write and executive produce the new show. Peter Traugott and Rachel Kaplain are attached as exec producers through their TBD Productions.

The report adds: “Traugott, who will exec produce NBC’s midseason drama entry ‘Do No Harm,’ is also attached to ‘Community’ star Donald Glover’s semi-autobiographical comedy in development at NBC. The former Brillstein Entertainment Partners head of television’s other development projects include a Justin Spitzer ensemble comedy and a New Orleans gothic thriller, which are both set up at NBC.”
