The actor who provides the voice of Homer Simpson and a number of other characters on Fox’s animated hit “The Simpsons” has a new project lined up, TVLine.com reports. Dan Castellaneta has joined the cast of the ABC Family pilot “Continuing Fred.”

Also joining the project is Mo Gaffney, a veteran of "Absolutely Fabulous."

The show’s lead character is Winifred “Fred” Harris, played by Mimi Gianopolous. Castellaneta and Gaffney will play her parents.

“His character is described as hardworking, cheap and gruff — pretty much the opposite of the actor’s ‘Simpsons’ alter ego Homer,” the report notes. Gaffney will play Loretta, Fred’s nosy but well-meaning mom.

The multicamera sitcom project has been greenlighted for a September pilot.

Besides Homer, Castellaneta provides the voices of Grampa, Barney, Krusty the Clown, Groundskeeper Willie and others on “The Simpsons.”
