Former News Corp. President Peter Chernin has joined the board of Twitter, as the microblogging site wants to strengthen its relationships with media companies, reports Bloomberg.

Chernin sent his first tweet shortly after Twitter announced his appointment, the story notes. Twitter is trying to build relationships in the television, film and publishing industries as it woos advertisers.

After leaving News Corp., Chernin started his own entertainment group, Chernin Group LLC.
