FX announced that it is bringing back an acclaimed drama series, and that one of its most popular stars will also be back. Deadline.com reports that Ryan Murphy’s “American Horror Story” will be back for a 13-episode third season.

Also returning will be star Jessica Lange, the piece notes. Lange won Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild and Emmy Awards for her performance as Constance Langdon in the series, the piece notes.

As with the transition between the first two seasons, cast members are returning in different roles for the new season.

Murphy and fellow series creator Brad Falchuk are keeping quiet about many of the details on season three, but production is set to get under way in summer 2013 with a target of premiering in fall 2013.

“The news comes with Season 2, ‘American Horror Story: Asylum,’ still on the air, headed to its conclusion on January 23,” the report notes. “It has been a formidable demo force in the Wednesday 10 PM time period, with last night’s episode topping all broadcast networks in Adults 18-34 (2.1). Vs. last week, ‘AHS: Asylum’ was up 30% in Adults 18-34 and 9% in Adults 18-49.

FX President John Landgraf commented: “With ‘American Horror Story: Asylum,’ Ryan and Brad have raised the bar in every way from ‘Murder House,’ the first ‘American Horror Story’ miniseries.”

The report notes: “Starring as Sister Jude in ‘AHS: Asylum,’ Lange will be moving to the Lead Actress category in the Golden Globe and Emmy awards this year, FX said.”
