A drama series that airs on Syfy in the U.S. is being shut down by BBC One after five seasons on the U.K. channel, Deadline.com reports. The program is the fantasy series "Merlin."

The series, which is a retelling of the Arthurian legends, will end at its natural peak, with the end to the battle for Camelot, according to the piece. The show stars Colin Morgan and Bradley James, with John Hurt voicing a dragon.

Co-creators and executive producers Johnny Capps and Julian Murphy said they are leaving the show’s producer, Shine TV, at year-end to start their own production company.

Meanwhile, Shine and FremantleMedia Enterprises are exploring developing "Merlin" spinoffs, the piece adds. Any new shows would be produced by Shine’s Kudos in partnership with FME.
