A CNN fixture who has been providing commentary and insight for "The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer" since 2005 has left the cable channel, reports TVNewser.com.

Jack Cafferty, who started his TV news career 52 years ago in Reno, was also a fixture in the New York TV market, where he spent more than 20 years at WPIX-TV, WNYW-TV and WNBC-TV.

Cafferty last appeared on "The Situation Room" on Nov. 15, his last day, leaving when his contract wasn’t renewed, the story notes.

"There is no one like Jack Cafferty,” a CNN representative said. “He’s brought a lot of wit and wisdom to viewers over the years.”

  1. It has been a great loss to Blitzer’s broadcast since Jack went off last month.
Cafferty brought insight from a vantage point unique in this ever increasing homogenized TV & Cable world.
How short-sided of CNN management not to have kept Jack.
This is a loss to CNN, Wolf’s broadcast, and to the industry.

  2. What a loss. If this is a forerunner of the new future management thinking they have a real problem.

  3. A slight correction Bob. They already have LOTS of real problems. Just throw this on the stack with the others being ignored.

  4. I worked as Jacks camera operator back in the 90’s into the early 2000’s at CNN and I am proud to say he was a wonderful anchor, friend, and coworker. His direction all changed at CNN when 9/11 happened. He had just launched a new show and they took it off the air and CNN changed everything immediatley. It was a pleasure to work with such a man!!

  5. Just another liberal. Good riddance
