Britney Spears Quits ‘X Factor’

After rumors circulated that Britney Spears was poised to get the boot from “The X Factor,” as we reported last month, the singer has decided to get proactive and quit the show, TMZ.com reports.

The website reports: “We have unimpeachable sources who tell us Britney loves the show but wants to focus on her music … which she is doing right now. Britney is in the studio recording her 8th album, with some help from Will.i.am and producer Hit-Boy, the brains behind Kanye and Jay-Z’s ‘N****s in Paris.’"

Sources close to the show confirmed that Spears quit the show because she did not expect to be invited back for next season, MTV News reports.

“Spears will be a one-termer after ratings for the show’s second season suffered a double-digit dip last year,” MTV reports. “The singer, whose most lasting legacy on ‘Factor’ could end up being her GIF-worthy grab bag of surprised/bored/blank facial expressions, has not officially been dropped from the panel yet, but the failure to launch made the writing on the wall very clear.”

Fox had no comment on the story.

MTV adds: “The signing of Spears was a gamble for [Simon] Cowell, considering that the press-shy singer has been reluctant to go in front of cameras for several years following a string of personal problems that began in 2007. The news came just days after Fox Entertainment Chairman Kevin Reilly told reporters that he was pleased with Spears’ job on ‘Factor.’"

Appearing earlier this week at the Television Critics Association press tour, Reilly said: "I thought it went very, very well. It was fraught with unknowns, and I think Britney did a very good job. People are fascinated with her and always will be. Last year the ratings were a little bit higher, but I think it was a better show this year. I think she tucked in really nicely on the bench."

  1. I think that Fox’s experiment of having 2 similar music competition shows is a failure.
If I was Fox, l would give Simon Cowell a boatload of money to end X-Factor and return to American Idol.
X-Factor has replaced the Idol franchise is most markets except the US. It clearly is not going to happen here.
