CNN Acquires Nonfiction Series From Ridley Scott

As part of its effort to expand beyond hard news on weekends, CNN has acquired a nonfiction series from feature director Ridley Scott. B&C reports that the cable channel acquired Scott’s "Crimes of the Century.”

The series will look at news events such as the Bernie Madoff scandal and air interviews with witnesses, victims and investigators, the story says. It will begin airing on weekends on CNN/U.S. later in 2013. Scott, best known for “Blade Runner” and “Alien,” is executive producing for Scott Free Productions.

The move comes after a few other nonfiction acquisitions for CNN, including Anthony Bourdain’s "Parts Unknown."

Scott is also known for directing the Apple Macintosh commercial “1984,” one of the most famous commercials of all time, which debuted during Super Bowl XVIII. Check it out:
