HBO had yet to reveal its plans for the Golden Globe-winning comedy series “Girls” when the show’s creator and star, Lena Dunham, let the cat out of the bag. Deadline.com reports that Dunham let it slip that the show is being renewed for a third season.

Dunham reportedly told Alec Baldwin on his podcast: “We’re starting season three at the end of March. I’m so excited.”

Nellie Andreeva writes in the Deadline piece: “HBO has been preparing for a third season of ‘Girls’ for a couple of months. I hear it closed a new overall deal with executive producer Jenni Konner to return as co-showrunner alongside creator/star/executive producer Dunham and has been assembling a writing team, with Paul Simms expected to replace Bruce Eric Kaplan as co-executive producer as Kaplan is busy working on his HBO pilot.”
