A bad experience with the ABC drama series “Pan Am” apparently wasn’t enough to discourage Christina Ricci from pursuing a career in television. EW.com’s Inside TV reports that the actress will give it another go, this time tackling comedy in a new NBC pilot.

The new project is "Girlfriend in a Coma." Ricci will play Karen, who emerges from a coma to find she has a 17-year-old daughter from a pregnancy she didn’t know about when she fell into the coma, the story says.

The show, based on a novel by Douglas Coupland, is from "Nurse Jackie" co-creator Liz Brixius.

Ricci’s 1960s retro series “Pan Am” crashed and burned pretty dramatically at ABC. The show aired to disappointing ratings from September 2011 until February 2012, when it was replaced midseason by “GCB.” It was officially canceled by the network back in May.

The Golden Globe-nominated Ricci is known mainly for her film work, including “The Ice Storm,” “ Buffalo ’66” and “The Opposite of Sex.”
