The VH1 reality show "Celebrity Rehab" has again been touched by tragedy, with the death of country singer Mindy McCready marking the fifth participant in the show to die in the past two years, reports EW.com’s Inside TV.

As previously reported, McCready died at age 37 Sunday from an apparent suicide. She was reportedly struggling after the suicide of record producer David Wilson, who was the father of her youngest child.

Dr. Drew Pinsky, the host of "Celebrity Rehab," said in a statement that he was "deeply saddened by this awful news." He added that he had "reached out to her recently upon hearing about the apparent suicide of her boyfriend and father of her younger children. She was devastated."

He added that it appeared she "did not sustain her treatment."

McCready was featured on the show’s third season, during which she received treatment for alcohol and prescription drug abuse. Also featured on that season were former Alice in Chains bassist Mike Starr, who died of an overdose two years ago, and "Real World" cast member Joey Kovar, who died of an opiate overdose last year, the story notes.

"Three deaths out of nine cast members from a single season of TV is a disturbing statistic,” the piece reports. “Yet it’s difficult to know what meaning to draw from it. Having a serious substance addiction problem is inherently a life-threatening issue and often has mental health complications."

Rodney King, who appeared on season two of “Celebrity Rehab,” and former “Taxi” star Jeff Conaway, another alum of season two, also both died in the past two years.
