NBC to Revisit an Out-of-Fashion Genre in Prime Time — With a ‘Daytime Flop’ as Host

NBC has a new prime-time show in the works that brings back a genre that has recently fallen out of fashion — the home makeover show — and the face of the show will be “the only Oprah protege to flop in daytime TV,” the New York Post reports.

The new show is tentatively titled “Home Transformers,” and the frontman is best-selling author and designer Nate Berkus.

“Home makeover shows have been out of fashion on prime-time TV — which has otherwise loved shows about the domestic arts, like cooking and child-raising — since the cancellation several years ago of ‘Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,’” the piece reports.

"Home Transformers" will be a competition-reality show featuring professional designers, builders, decorators and craftsmen, the story notes.

Berkus launched a syndicated daytime show in 2010 — backed by Oprah Winfrey — but struggled to attract viewers until the show was scrapped midway through season two, the report notes.
