With the cost of sports rights soaring, ESPN’s per-subscriber fee is also expected to climb. MediaPost reports that the fee is likely to pass $7 a month in 2017, based on ESPN’s huge NFL rights bill and the likelihood of its renewal with the NBA.

The network’s current deal with Time Warner Cable will yield $5.40 per subscriber per month beginning in mid-2013. It will pass the $7 mark in 2017 and reach $7.50 in 2018, the story says.

By the end of the decade, the network should fetch $8 a month per subscriber.
