Report: High-Profile Anchor Leaving CNN

A familiar face at CNN is reportedly on the way out at the network. The New York Post’s Page Six reports that new network chief Jeff Zucker is moving Erin Burnett into Soledad O’Brien’s morning time period, with O’Brien headed out.

O’Brien has reportedly said she’s ready to leave the network. The award-winning journalist “was initially promised a plum prime-time slot, but that role has so far failed to materialize,” the story notes.

The report cites a source saying: “The deal to move Erin to the morning alongside Chris Cuomo is basically done. Soledad had been told she’d get a prime-time slot, but that hasn’t yet happened, and now she is telling friends she is likely to leave.”

The source adds: “Soledad is talented at producing in-depth, serious pieces of journalism, and is a tough interviewer. That doesn’t seem to fit the direction the network is going.”

O’Brien moved to CNN from NBC in 2003, anchoring "American Morning" first before moving on to specials. She’s been anchoring the morning show "Starting Point" since January.

Another source cited in the piece says: “Soledad is a big star, and would only stay for the right show. There’s word there will be a flurry of announcements at CNN very soon, including Erin’s move to the morning.”

  1. Good move, CNN. Have you ever seen her smarmy look of disgust when interviewing a conservative? Maybe she can take her bias over to MSNBC or Al Jazeera. She’d fit right in with those networks.
