Comedy legend and renaissance man Steve Martin has become a father for the first time at age 67, the New York Post reports. The stand-up comedian, actor, author, producer and banjo picker welcomed his first child with his wife, Anne Stringfield, 41, in December, the story reports.
Said a source: “They’ve had a baby, and how they kept it a secret nobody knows. Steve’s very private.”
The report notes: “The couple married in 2007 at Martin’s home in a surprise ceremony where guests, including Tom Hanks and Diane Keaton, were told it was a party.”
The piece notes that Martin has talked about his difficulties with his own dad, writing: “My father’s attitude toward my show-business accomplishments was critical. After my first appearance on ‘Saturday Night Live’ … he wrote a bad review of me in the newsletter of the Newport Board of Realtors where he was president.”
The piece adds: “But Martin wrote in 2008, years after his father died, ‘In his death, my father … did something he could not do in life. He brought our family together.”
TMZ.com notes: “Steve wouldn’t be the first celebrity dad to father a kid in his 60s … Rod Stewart did it (66 years old) … so did Pablo Picasso (67) and Clint Eastwood (66).
“And … Charlie Chaplin had a kid when he was 73.”
