ABC Finds Third Female Lead for New Comedy — Replacing Mandy Moore

ABC has filled out the main players for a new comedy, turning to an actress who has become an increasingly familiar face on TV to replace Mandy Moore in the project.

Deadline.com reports that Kristen Schaal, a favorite from Comedy Central’s "The Daily Show" and HBO’s "Flight of the Conchords," gets the role in the pilot "Pulling." Schaal will play Louise, one of three dysfunctional women in their 30s who are at the center of the project.

The other two main characters will be played by June Diane Raphael and Jenny Slate.

Moore was the first person cast in a major role for the project, and as the show evolved it reportedly became apparent to producers that they needed to go in a different direction. Her exit was announced late last week, with Moore agreeing the character as it had evolved wasn’t right for her.

The show is based on a British series and is from ABC Studios, with the project written by Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky.

Slate, a “Saturday Night Live” alumna, was recently named to play Karen on “Pulling,” as we reported earlier this week. Raphael will play Donna.
