British television star Frank Thornton, who was known for his role as the department store floorwalker Capt. Peacock on the hit sitcom "Are You Being Served?," has died, reports the U.K.’s Telegraph. Thornton, 92, reportedly died in his sleep.

The story reports: "Capt. Peacock patrolled his beat with a quiet and courteous authority. As he surveyed his domain of menswear and ladies’ fashions with a sometimes hard-pressed hauteur, he represented a beacon of fastidiousness in a vanishing, old-fashioned world."

Thornton also had a long run on the U.K. comedy series “Last of the Summer Wine” until it wrapped in 2010.
