George R.R. Martin, whose books are the basis for HBO’s hit fantasy show "Game of Thrones," might develop a prequel for the network, according to an interview with IGN.com.

"I have been writing a series of novellas set in Westeros, set 100 years earlier," Martin told the news service. "I’ve published three of those novellas, and I have about nine to 10 more in mind."

The novellas feature a pair of knights called Dunk and Egg, and are “somewhat lighter in tone, a little more adventurous," Martin said. "My fans love them and I love the characters too. Maybe that’s what we’ll do."

He added that he has other ideas for new series, all of them dramas. "I’m not a comedy guy. I have an idea for a science fiction show" and others with a historical basis. "We’ll see which ones they like," he said.
