CNN appears to have bigger things in mind for a pair of TV personalities whose awkward chemistry on New Year’s Eve has created memorable moments for the channel.

Deadline.com reports that the cable channel taped a pilot this week with Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffin, which has the potential to make their New Year’s Eve specials a regular program.

While details weren’t known, the pilot was said to be taped in front of a live audience and included a lot of humor, the story says. It also included new CNN chief Jeff Zucker.

"While it is unclear whether the project is definitely for CNN, Zucker has been looking to shake things up at the ratings-challenged cable news network by adding more mainstream entertainment fare. The annual New Year’s Eve pairing of Cooper and Griffin draws solid ratings and generates a lot of headlines with racy moments like Griffin getting up close and personal with Cooper’s private parts this year," the piece notes.

Griffin remains a fixture on Bravo with her Emmy-winning series “My Life on the D-List.”
