Keith Olbermann is reportedly looking to return to his roots, with the veteran TV host and his representatives expressing interest in rejoining ESPN, reports The New York Times.

The overtures come as Olbermann gave a deposition Friday in a reported $70 million lawsuit he filed against Current TV, his most recent employer, the story notes.

Olbermann was also controversial at ESPN, where he worked from 1992 to 1997, the piece notes.

According to the report, "Some at ESPN were glad to see him go; he was considered the network’s most controversial personality. Olbermann’s encyclopedic knowledge of sports was not disputed, nor were his writing skills or on-air talent. But over time, he managed to alienate a sizable group in the company, who found him exasperating to work with."

John Skipper, ESPN’s president, said he had dinner at New York’s Four Seasons Restaurant with Olbermann and told The Times, "Clearly he was looking to see if there was an entry point to come back.”

Dan Patrick, who worked with Olbermann on "SportsCenter," told the newspaper that he wouldn’t be surprised if his former co-host returns to ESPN. Patrick now hosts NBC’s "Football Night in America."

"What I can say is that if he does return, I won’t be back there with him doing ‘SportsCenter,’ I can promise you that," Patrick said.

Skipper said that a return for Olbermann wasn’t imminent, the story adds.

"After the dinner, at that point, there was no real appropriate place for Keith to come back, nor did I feel like I was prepared to bring him back,” Skipper said, according to the article.

  1. Keith has finally burned the last bridge. Even Al Jazeera TV can’t tolerate his nonsense. He is a talented guy, but his ego is too big for any network and his best hope is to start an online podcast/radio show like Adam Carolla. That way he can be his own boss and have to deal with all of his games.
