The worst may be over for Fox’s “American Idol” in its recent struggle with ratings. The show was up Thursday night in the key 18-49 demo, based on Nielsen overnights, leading Fox to a ratings win for the night.

TVbytheNumbers.com reports that “Idol” delivered a 3.1 average rating in 18-49, improving two-tenths of a point from a week ago. Fox’s “Glee” was also up, drawing a 2.4 average, four-tenths better than its previous original episode.

Fox’s 2.7 average for prime time in viewers 18-49 gave the network an easy win over CBS (1.9 average), Univision (1.6), NBC (1.5) and ABC (1.2). CBS aired all repeats and ABC put up just one fresh program.

Fox had a narrow win for prime time in total viewers, averaging 9.8 million to lead CBS (9.0 million), ABC (4.2 million), Univision (3.9 million) and NBC (3.5 million).

ABC’s “Wife Swap” ticked up one-tenth from last week to score a 1.4 average rating in the 18-49 demo.

NBC was on pace with a week ago, with a couple of shows posting slight gains. The network’s highest-rated show was “The Office” with a 1.9 in 18-49, up one-tenth from a week ago. “Community” rose two-tenths, rebounding from last week’s series low to post a 1.2. Holding steady to last week’s numbers were “Parks and Recreation” (1.5 average), “Go On” (1.1) and “Hannibal” (1.6), which equaled last week’s premiere number.
