CNN Anchor Says Erroneous Marathon Bombing Report Was His Fault

CNN continues to be a magnet for criticism over its coverage of the Boston Marathon bombing. The latest group to add its voice to the chorus is the NAACP, which expressed concern over CNN’s erroneous report that a "dark-skinned male" was in custody in connection with the bombing, reports B&C.

In a tweet Thursday in response to the criticism, CNN anchor John King said he was responsible for the description, but denied that he’s racist, the story says.

NAACP criticized the report on two fronts. First, the story was wrong, and second, the network used "an overly broad, unhelpful and potentially racially inflammatory categorization to describe the potential suspect," said NAACP President Benjamin Todd Jealous.

The organization asked CNN and other news outlets to "weigh the implications" of their characterizations, the piece notes.

In his tweet, King wrote, "Source of that description was a senior government official. And I asked, are you sure? But I’m responsible. What I am not is racist."

CNN released a statement about the report in which it said: "CNN had three credible sources on both local and federal levels. Based on this information we reported our findings. As soon as our sources came to us with new information we adjusted our reporting."

Whites constitute the majority of the U.S. population, with a total of 223,553,265 or 72.4% of the population in the 2010 United States Census
Plus White or European American Hispanics* 26,735,713 or 8.7 %
*Hispanics may be Caucasian (descended from Europeans), Black (descended from African slaves), Indian (descended from Native Americans) or Mestizo (descended from a mixture of the above).

  5. And little dick men like you and Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity get angry over everything as well. Surprised you haven’t shot up a school yet.

  6. Pretty amusing. These two young men represent the most Caucasian on the planet. They ARE Caucasian!

  7. So…you are checking dick size now. Well check on all the crazy guys that were the shooters. All Democrats, or from Democratic families.

  8. khione has it right. Their homeland is IN the Caucusus moutains. It doesn’t get more Caucasian than that.
And, rbockman, it doesn’t matter what color the bombers are, since the report was wrong about the arrest. King wasn’t talking about the Tsarnaev brothers because they had not yet been identified. It was just a racially charged description with no validity in fact.
