The CW made a number of programming announcements, including ordering its first new show for the 2013-14 television season. The channel ordered "The Originals," which is a spinoff of its popular "Vampire Diaries," according to The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed.

The network also renewed "Beauty and the Beast" for a second season and announced it is bringing back "Hart of Dixie," the story says.

"The Originals" focuses on the Original family in New Orleans, with Klaus returning to the French Quarter of New Orleans and reuniting with his former protege Marcel, the story says. The order was given the day after "The Vampire Diaries" aired a backdoor pilot that drew 2.2 million total viewers and a 0.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic.
