A bestselling Stephen King novel has been optioned by J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot, with a plan to adapt the book as a miniseries or TV show, reports Deadline.com. The novel is "11/22/63."

The project will most likely be developed for cable, the story says. The book is about a divorced English teacher named Jake who enters a time portal, leading him to Sept. 9, 1958. From there, he begins a quest to prevent the assassination of President John. F. Kennedy, which occurred on the date of the book’s title.

Bad Robot has been seeking to expand its projects to cable, the story says. Its other shows include "Revolution," which was renewed last week by NBC, and the CBS drama "Person of Interest," which has also been renewed.
