A young star of a controversial reality show was found dead this morning with two other people, according to media reports. The body of Shain Gandee, 21, one of the stars of the MTV reality show “Buckwild,” was found along with his uncle, David Gandee, 48, and an unidentified third person.

“Buckwild” has been the subject of controversy, as previously reported, with West Virginians upset about what they call its inaccurate characterization of the state’s young people as wild and reckless. The show was renewed in February by MTV for a second season.

Details were scarce, but Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department officials said the three bodies were discovered in a vehicle in Sissonville, W.Va., reportedly at the end of a long dirt road. Shain Gandee was last heard from around 3 a.m. Sunday when he and David Gandee apparently told people in a bar that they were going four-wheeling.

Officials also reportedly said no foul play was suspected.

MTV said in a statement: "We are shocked and saddened by the terrible news about Shain Gandee, and those involved in this tragic incident. We are waiting for more information but at this time, our main concern is for the Gandee family and their friends."

The statement adds: "Our thoughts and prayers are with them. Shain had a magnetic personality, with a passion for life that touched everyone he met, and we will miss him dearly."

Relatives had reportedly been searching for the men since early Sunday morning and had reported them missing Sunday.
