CBS basketball analyst Doug Gottlieb, described as the only non-African-American sitting on the network’s panel analyzing its Sweet 16 coverage, set off a Twitter firestorm over the weekend when he said he was there to offer "a white man’s perspective," reports TheWrap.com.

"I’m just here to bring diversity to the set, give the kind of white man’s perspective," he said to his four co-panelists. His comment was received with "awkward laughter," the story notes.

Twitter followers said the joke was inappropriate, and Gottlieb apologized. "It was not a smart thing to say and I apologize," he said, according to the story.

He got some defense from panelist Charles Barkley, who said, "He made a joke earlier tonight and people are going crazy. All those idiots on Twitter, which I would never ever do, all you people at home who’ve got no life and are talking bad about Doug Gottlieb, get a life. It’s over with. It’s no big deal."

  1. I see nothing wrong with his joke. People need to stop looking for stuff to be indignant about. The only problem was that his delivery of the joke was bad.

  2. Oh come on, silly thing to get upset about. If any other panelist had said they were there to give a black man’s perspective, no one would have said a word about it. This country turns more ignorant every day.

  3. Been watching and listening to Doug Gottlieb for years. He’s not a racist. I think the media should back off of this. No story here.
