Diane Sawyer’s ABC News special with Amanda Knox, the former exchange student who was accused of murdering her roommate in Italy, boosted sales of Knox’s memoir, "Waiting to Be Heard," according to The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed.

The book is now one of Amazon’s top five sellers, after initially failing to crack its top 100 list. Overnight ratings for the ABC interview were also strong, with the network hitting a 12-week high in the 10 p.m. Tuesday slot. The special earned a 1.7 rating among adults 18-49 and drew 8.5 million viewers.

"The news also confirms a Sawyer interview as one of the most reliable promotional vehicles for a book," the piece points out.

Sawyer’s interviews have also helped boost sales of books by Jaycee Dugard, Bob Woodward and Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, according to the story.

The ABC News veteran will next interview Malala Yousafzai, the 15-year-old Pakistani girl who was shot by the Taliban for advocating schooling for girls, in another book-related interview, the piece says. Yousafzai is releasing a memoir called "I Am Malala," with both the book release and the interview slated for October.

  2. Amanda is totally innocent. Our society is guilty of putting her in jail for 4 years. Oh my god! Leave this poor woman alone! She had nothing to do with this murder! She will end up being a saint if we keep going the way we are. Think about the scarlet letter!? This is a modern-day witch-hunt.
