Audiences and TV Networks at Odds Over Christian Slater

May 15, 2013  •  Post A Comment

Audiences and network executives are apparently in disagreement about the appeal of actor Christian Slater, reports the Los Angeles Times’ Show Tracker.

"If there’s one thing that TV audiences have made crystal clear in the last few years, it’s that they don’t like TV shows starring Christian Slater," the story notes.

Yet networks keep ordering shows starring the "Heathers" actor.

The past three years have seen NBC’s "My Own Worst Enemy," ABC’s "The Forgotten" and Fox’s "Breaking In" — all starring Slater — all canceled quickly after bombing.

But three strikes haven’t gotten Slater out. He’s starring in another new network drama, the ABC midseason show "Mind Games," the piece notes. He stars with Steve Zahn as brothers who use manipulation to solve clients’ problems.

"Maybe ‘Mind Games’ will be able to manipulate viewers into accepting Slater as a TV star," the story says.

  1. My sentiments exactly. When I saw ABC was rolling out yet another show starring Christian Slater my mind went to the last three years and the last three flops. But, is it the actor or is it the writing? We’ll see.

  2. After seeing the 3 minute highlight, I believe that Mind Games won’t last till Thanksgiving.

  3. The problem isn’t Slater, it’s the agent who keeps selling him on series pilots that have disaster written all over them. Both “The Forgotten” and “My Own Worst Enemy” were okay shows that like so many others just didn’t pull in the RIGHT audience numbers so they got canned. He’s not doing any worse than Jason O’Mara, who has now either starred in or been the primary supporting character in some of the most promising, high profile American TV series in recent years but he’s usually got another high-profile series deal in the works before he sobers up from the wrap party but I don’t hear anybody saying that viewers don’t like HIM.
