Former "Ugly Betty" star America Ferrera may be poised to return to ABC in a modern-day twist on "Romeo and Juliet," reports EW.com’s Inside TV.

The project is called "Pedro & Maria" and is in development as a potential limited series at the network. It was originally developed at MTV three years ago, and is from executive producer Ben Silverman of "The Office," through his Electus studio.

The project is based on a Spanish-language telenovela.
