Girls Gone Wild founder Joe Francis apologized for his "hurtful" remarks made during an interview in which he called jurors who convicted him "retarded" and said they should be shot by firing squad, reports the Los Angeles Times’ ShowTracker.

As previously reported, Francis gave a profanity-laced interview to The Hollywood Reporter one day after he was found guilty of false imprisonment of three women in his Bel-Air home. He called the jurors "mentally f—ing retarded and you should be euthanized because, as Darwin said, you have naturally selected yourself."

In his apology, Francis said he regretted making the comments. "They were hurtful and do not reflect my true feelings. While I disagree with the jury’s verdict as I am completely innocent of the charges and intend to appeal, I was afforded a fair trial, and if I lose at the appellate level, I will reluctantly but fully accept the jury’s verdict."

But he added that the quotes were picked from a six-hour interview about his trial and life, and complained that the comments were "manipulated" by the media, the Times notes.

"My comments are appalling, but anyone who has ever been wrongfully convicted of a crime that they did not commit would be as frustrated as I am," Francis said.
