HBO has revived a high-profile project with actor James Gandolfini, a surprise move given that the network passed on the project just two months ago, according to The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed.

The project is "Criminal Justice," which was adapted from a BBC show. HBO plans to air the project as a seven-part limited series after retooling the New York crime drama, the story says.

After HBO chose to pass over the project, it started getting some buzz and interest from rivals, the piece notes. Oscar nominee Richard Price will write, with Oscar-winning writer Steven Zaillian directing and executive producing.

Gandolfini will play Jack Stone, a jailhouse attorney. The limited series will track the case of a man who wakes up after partying with a stranger to find her stabbed to death.
