Larry King Lands a New TV Talk Show — and the Channel He Will Be On Is Unexpected, to Say the Least

Longtime CNN talk host Larry King is resurfacing with a new TV show, and the channel that hired him is a surprise. According to The Hollywood Reporter, King’s new show, "Politics with Larry King," will be on the Kremlin-backed channel Russia Today.

The show is set to launch next month on the English-language TV channel. According to Margarita Simonyan, RT’s editor-in-chief, it will be no-holds-barred, THR reports.

Commenting on King’s quarter-century run on CNN, which ended in 2010, Simonyan said: "Whether a president or an activist or a rock star was sitting across from him, Larry King never shied away from asking the tough questions, which makes him a terrific fit for our network.”

THR adds: “King’s career spans 56 years since he began as a local radio reporter in Florida and he has more than 50,000 interviews under his belt. The broadcast veteran’s veteran says the show will break new ground.”

King confirmed that he will seek out voices that are largely ignored by the media. “I have interviewed every U.S. president since Nixon, and lest people forget, I helped usher Ross Perot into the national conversation during the 1992 presidential contest," he said. "I appreciate the importance of providing a platform to those with real alternative visions for our country’s future.”

“RT will air the new show produced by Ora.tv in June as well as ‘Larry King Now,’ which launched on Hulu and Ora.TV last year,” THR adds. “The programs will be recorded in RT America’s Washington D.C., studios and Ora TV’s studio in Los Angeles. RT America will be the exclusive U.S. broadcaster for both programs, which will continue to stream online at Hulu.com and Ora.tv and also be available online on rt.com.”
