NBC’s "Smash" ended its two-season run with two back-to-back episodes that failed to draw crowds, reports The New York Times’ ArtsBeat.
Based on preliminary Nielsen ratings, the episodes averaged 2.4 million total viewers, which was better than the 2 million average the program received after the network shifted it to Saturdays.
Nevertheless, the second episode, which aired at 10 p.m. on Sunday, was beaten by a repeat of CBS’s "The Mentalist," both in total viewers and in the 18-49 segment.
The series ended with guest appearances from Broadway actors including Ron Rifkin and Lillias White, who portrayed presenters during a faux-Tony Awards ceremony.
