PBS has commissioned a project that is being described as "Downton Abbey" set in California, reports the New York Post.

Called "Alta California," the show is set in the 1800s in California, and is a multigenerational drama with some of the themes of PBS’s period hit "Downton Abbey," the story says. Those themes include class conflict and history as well as great landscapes.

The project is from Dennis T. Leoni, who created the Showtime series "Resurrection Blvd.," the piece notes.
