Syfy Pulling the Plug on Series That Has Been a Fan Favorite

Syfy will pull the plug on a drama series that has been a fan favorite — but the show will get a fifth and final season, Deadline.com reports.

The series is "Warehouse 13," which will air a six-episode final season, with production slated to start this summer and the season to premiere in 2014.

The show tracks Secret Service agents as they hunt down magical artifacts, which are often dangerous. The program "always seemed to play second-fiddle to something on the Syfy schedule, even when it was the cable channel’s top-rated scripted program," notes sci-fi publication Airlock Alpha.

The article adds: "It still brings in a strong audience. However, it has been recently overshadowed by the new Syfy series ‘Defiance,’ which indirectly caused ‘Warehouse 13’ to get pushed to the 10 p.m. slot — a death slot for a family-oriented show."

  1. Networks have such a hard time finding shows that fans like. It is really sad to see a show like Warehouse 13 getting treated so poorly over its history by a Network that needs all the fan support it can get.

  2. You’re right, DG. And especially a network that is called Sy Fy that runs little real science fiction.

  3. I’m a Farscape fan. I learned a long time ago that Skiffy doesn’t care about fans. I hadn’t watched anything on that channel for nearly 10 years until Defiance, and I’m leary of getting invested in that. Skiffy will break my heart… Again. They just want to clear schedule space for more cheap schlock that doesn’t cost them much.

  4. What… you mean professional wrestling isn’t science fiction?

  5. I totally agree. First Eureka, now Warehouse 13. The best television shows don’t appear to count for much these days, just the bottom line.

  6. Hey its all about the bottom line, if it wasn’t they would just move the show to another better time slot.
But as we all know as SciFi (I detest syffy) as the channel got eaten by bigger and bigger entities it lost it soul.Programming became less and less about its core and more about what adds to the bottom line because its cheaper to produce.

  7. My thoughts exactly. I was devastated when Eureka was cancelled. Was such an amazing show. Now Warehouse 13 which is also in the exact same vein of quirky greatness. I think it is a high quality show and I honestly don’t see it as being anywhere close to Eureka in terms of production cost. SO disappointed. Defiance is total crap in my opinion, watched all episodes so far and have decided to stop watching it all together. It really is an unimpressive show to say the least and just because it is a cross marketing ploy that is tied into some serious $$ contracts it pushes back warehouse and gets it cancelled. SYFY has truly turned its back on its true viewership and on good content.
    Shame on them.

  9. Would like to see a new science fiction series…but FOX is creating better science fiction in it’s political coverage than SciFi channel is doing.
