The third-season renewal of Lifetime’s drama series "The Client List" is hung up because of a real-life drama involving star Jennifer Love Hewitt’s baby daddy, reports Deadline.com.

The network and the show’s producers are trying to decide how to deal with Hewitt’s demands and her pregnancy, which she announced two weeks ago.

Hewitt, who is an executive producer on the series, wants a third-season story line to focus on the character played by Brian Hallisay, her real-life fiance and the father of her unborn child, the story reports. According to Hewitt’s plan, Hallisay would reportedly play her character’s baby daddy on the show in a major story arc.

But her vision conflicts with the showrunner’s ideas, which focus on the series’ male lead Colin Egglesfield, according to the report. Hallisay, who started on the show as a recurring character and was later promoted to a regular, reportedly does not have broad support among network executives.

Currently the two sides are at a standstill, leading to a delay in the show’s renewal. While a compromise appears to be within reach, the piece notes that both sides also appear to be prepared to walk away from the show.

A representative for Hewitt is quoted in the report saying: “There are many story lines we are exploring. So any suggestion that we are not doing our best to develop a great season is simply not accurate.”
