With fan favorite Phil Mickelson atop the leaderboard at the U.S Open on Father’s Day, the ratings for the final round of this major golf tournament should do well. It’s also Mickelson’s 43rd birthday today, Sunday, June 16, 2013.

Adding to the suspense is that Mickelson has never won the U.S. Open. Writes Karen Crouse in The New York Times, "Mickelson played his first United States Open as an amateur in 1990 and finished 29th. In 21 subsequent starts, he finished as the runner-up a record five times. With an even-par round of 70 on Saturday, Mickelson took the 54-hole lead at Merion Golf Club at one-under-par 209. He was the only player under par."

Crouse adds, "Only once before, in 2006, has Mickelson held the 54-hole lead in this tournament. He went on to finish second."

The world’s best known current golfer, Tiger Woods, continued to have his problems in major tournaments and quickly ballooned to 12-over-par during the final round of the Open.
