A veteran TV news correspondent who worked for both NBC News and ABC News during his long career has died. The New York Times reports that Herb Kaplow died at 86 after suffering a stroke.

Kaplow’s career spanned the 1950s into the 1990s, and included covering the Nuremberg trials and the revolution in Cuba.

As a Washington correspondent, Kaplow was a familiar face to generations, covering the White House and 10 presidential campaigns, the story notes. He also reported on the civil rights movement, ranging from the Supreme Court’s 1954 ruling to desegregate schools, to the Freedom Riders’ campaign to integrate buses in the 1960s, the story adds.
