NBC Chairman Robert Greenblatt announced Saturday, July 27, 2013, that NBC will present a four-hour miniseries titled "Hillary," about Hillary Clinton. The program will star Diane Lane, who has been nominated both for Emmys ("Cinema Verite," "Lonesome Dove") and for an Academy Award ("Unfaithful").

Greenblatt, speaking at the summer tour of the Television Critics Association (TCA), told TV critics and reporters that his flagship NBC network "needs to be in the event business."

For years the biggest event on the network has been the Olympics. Greenblatt is now adding some significant scripted miniseries to the mix as well. Two of those are a sequel to "The Bible" and a six-hour miniseries about Cleopatra.

But it was his announcement of "Hillary" that made the biggest splash, especially since Clinton might run for president again. Asked about that at the TCA gathering at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif., Greenblatt replied, "We have to think very carefully about the timing. She probably wouldn’t announce for another two years. That would be be maybe spring or summer of 2015. The show could have already aired by then."

In its press release about "Hillary" NBC said that it "will be written and directed by Oscar nominee Courtney Hunt (‘Frozen River’). The miniseries will recount Clinton’s life as a wife, mother, politician and Cabinet member from 1998 to the present. The script will begin with Clinton living in the White House as her husband is serving the second of his two terms as president."

Greenblatt also announced a four-hour miniseries retelling of "Rosemary’s Baby," the Ira Levin bestseller from 1967 that was made into a hit movie the following year. Another miniseries will be a remake of Stephen King’s 1987 "Tommyknockers," which aired as a miniseries 20 years ago, in 1993.

Finally, Mark Burnett will produce for NBC the limited series "Plymouth," about the Pilgrims’ journey to America and settling here.
