‘The View’ Fixture Exits Show, Heads to Fox News Channel

One of the longtime co-hosts of the ABC talk show "The View" is making the move to Fox News Channel. The New York Times reports that Elisabeth Hasselbeck has been hired by Fox News to replace Gretchen Carlson on "Fox & Friends."

Hasselbeck’s last day on "The View" is expected to be today, and she will start on "Fox & Friends" in mid-September, the piece adds. Carlson will move to another daytime hour, although the time slot wasn’t specified.

"Ms. Hasselbeck, who as the lone conservative on ‘The View’ sometimes came under attack from her more liberal co-hosts, will not feel that way on ‘Fox & Friends.’ The morning show is reliably conservative; the co-hosts Steve Doocy and Brian Kilmeade seem to compete to one-up each other’s critiques of the president and Democrats," the story reports.

The change comes after Fox News announced plans to move Megyn Kelly, the anchor of "America Live," to prime time this summer, with speculation that she will take over Greta Van Susteren’s 10 p.m. time slot, the story says. Kelly’s move frees up some time during the day, where Carlson may end up moving.

The piece adds, "ABC indicated that the decision to leave ‘The View’ hastily was Ms. Hasselbeck’s. Her departure began to be rumored some months ago, but she and the show’s creator, Barbara Walters, have sidestepped the issue in interviews and in conversations on the show."

  1. Good for Elizabeth. Her voice will be appreciated at FNC where they try to be ‘fair & balanced’ – unlike The View where poor Liz has to battle to get a word in edgewise from the cackling libs who always put her down.

  2. By your own admission, the View had liberal and conservative voices. How can a place that “appreciates” conservative voices (ie: provides a nearly-exclusive platform for conservative ideas) be considered “fair and balanced”? If anything, the View was the more fair and balanced environment and I hope they continue to include a conservative voice on their panel.

  3. Prompter Bob’s point seems a bit off to me….when Elizabeth joins Fox News, she’ll just be preaching to the choir, since all the Fox viewers will already agree with her. Her platform on “The View” wsa definitely more powerful. Like HUH? said, “The View” is much more “fair and balanced” than anything Fox News produces. While I generally disagreed with Elizabeth, I enjoyed her participation on “The View.” Pity to not see her again as Fox News is permanently blocked on my cable box.

  4. I find it interesting that Prompter Bob described exactly how “liberal” (anyone who does not agree with them) guests are treated when they appear on Faux News.
