Why One ‘Community’ Star Is Being Downgraded to Part Time for Season Five

One of the stars of the NBC comedy series "Community" won’t be seen nearly as much during the show’s upcoming fifth season. Joe Adalian reports on New York Magazine’s Vulture.com that actor Donald Glover is cutting back significantly on his appearances on the show.

The actor, who plays Troy Barnes, will appear in only five of the next season’s 13 episodes, the story says. The reason is that Glover wants to spend more time working on Childish Gambino, a stage name under which he performs music.

Adalian writes: "Glover will now be able to focus more on his music, while Sony will save some money since it won’t have to pay Glover for every episode. (Of course, once and future showrunner Dan Harmon might find a way to spend that extra coin. Maybe a 3-D episode?)"
