An annual event that has already grown into the Discovery Channel’s signature programming block is getting even bigger. The Los Angeles Times’ Show Tracker reports that the cable channel’s Shark Week will premiere 11 new shark specials this year, up from last year’s eight.
Shark Week, which returns for its 26th year, starts Aug. 4.
A program the publication calls "the first-ever late-night shark talk show" will air every evening that week. "Shark After Dark" takes a page from "The Talking Dead," and will feature clips from Shark Week as well as shark experts and surprise guests.
Another new feature of Shark Week is the Shark Cam, a robotic submarine that will track sharks underwater. The footage will be used in the special "Return of Jaws," about great white sharks living off Cape Cod.
