ABC is working on a semi-autobiographical miniseries based on the experiences of an Academy Award-winning writer. The project focuses on Dustin Lance Black, who won an Oscar for the screenplay for "Milk," The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed reports.

Black will write the series for ABC Studios, while Laurence Mark of "Jerry Maguire" will executive produce. The untitled project will look at the gay rights movement.

Black, 39, was brought up in a strict Mormon home and has worked for gay rights and marriage equality, the story notes.
