"Glee’s" Finn Hudson, played by Cory Monteith — who died July 13 from an overdose of heroin and alcohol — will be written out of the Fox series in the third episode of the upcoming season, and Deadline.com reports that the episode is set to air Oct. 10.

Fox Entertainment Chairman Kevin Reilly talked about plans for the show today at the Television Critics Association press tour. “That is the episode where Cory’s character will be written off and will deal directly with drug addiction and with the circumstances surrounding Cory’s death,” said Reilly.

Deadline adds: "That does not mean Cory’s character Finn Hudson necessarily dies of a drug overdose, Reilly cautioned. But series co-creator Ryan Murphy will shoot PSAs with the cast that will air during the episode. They will speak to the incident and drug addiction, Reilly said."

A fund will reportedly be set up in Monteith’s name using proceeds from the music in the "Glee" episode.

Reilly said of the planned tribute: “It is a celebration, and really sad, of this really vibrant kid.”

As we reported previously, the first two episodes of the upcoming "Glee" season will be a Beatles tribute. Reilly noted that the show will go on a hiatus for baseball after the third episode, “as a natural break to reset.”
