The cruise ship used in the classic series "The Love Boat" has made its last run. CNN reports that the ship sailed to Turkey last week for dismantling, experiencing tragedy along the way as two people died in an accident on the ship.
The ship was damaged while entering the Turkish port of Aliaga, where it is to be dismantled, and started taking on water. Crews used electrical pumps to drain the water, but engine-exhaust buildup caused toxic exposure to gas, leading to the fatalities, the story notes.
Six other people were injured but were released from the hospital, according to the report.
Izmir Ship Recycling Co. bought the ship for about $3.33 million, with its dismantling expected to take as long as eight months.
The boat was originally called the Pacific Princess and was used in the ABC series from 1977 to 1987, the piece notes.
