CBS Orders Tommy Hilfiger Reality Show

CBS announced Friday it is ordering a new reality show starring fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger in which 16 contestants will compete for the chance to get a contract to design their collection under the Hilfiger label.

“The Cut,” which is being produced by Lions Gate Television in association with Pilgrim Films and Television, is one of CBS’s few recent reality series buys. The network has been selective about adding more reality to its schedule, beyond its proven performers “Survivor,” “Big Brother” and “The Amazing Race.”

Mr. Hilfiger will host the 13-episode midseason series, which will put 16 fashion hopefuls in a SoHo loft and will test their fashion, business, sales and marketing skills. A team of guest advisers, Mr. Hilfiger’s “Style Council,” will help the designer decide which contestant should be cut each week.

After launching his first men’s wear collection in 1984, Mr. Hilfiger’s brand of clothes, home furnishings and fragrances currently generates about $3.5 billion in annual retail sales.

Former “Survivor” co-executive producer Craig Piligian will executive produce, along with Darren Maddern and Peter Connolly, Hilfiger’s president of worldwide marketing. Alan David and Eli Frankel will co-executive produce.
