Nielsen, AGB Team Up to Provide International Ratings

VNU-owned Nielsen Media Research International and Kantar Media Research-owned AGB Group have agreed to a 50-50 joint venture that will provide TV ratings in 30 countries-from Australia and China to the United Kingdom and South Africa-under the brand name of AGB Nielsen Media Research.

The TV ratings services Nielsen sells in the United States are not to be involved with the joint venture by the companies, whose combined revenues are said to add up to some $110 million. The board of directors of the new entity will comprise equal numbers of representatives from both parent companies. AGB’s current management will run the new enterprise.

The deal is scheduled to close in the fourth quarter 2004, pending regulatory approvals and closing conditions.
